5.7 Ensuring that port-specific security communication is available

When completing the Declaration of Security, the Ship Security Officer and the Port Facility Security Officer agree on the means of communication in case of an emergency. The current SECURITY level determines the frequency by which this communication is checked and the backup system requirements. Here follows some examples of security measures to take at different security levels:

• SECURITY Level 1. No requirements to have the communication checked or to have backup communication.
• SECURITY Level 2.  Perform regular communication checks.  One method of backup communication.
• SECURITY Level 3.  Perform regular communication checks.  More than one method of backup communication.
