The course "Designated Security Duties of Ship Personnel" covers key aspects of ship security necessary for training crew members in accordance with international standards. The course addresses modern threats such as piracy and terrorist attacks, as well as methods for recognizing and detecting weapons, hazardous substances, and explosive devices. An important element is training in recognizing suspicious behavior without discrimination, as well as methods for circumventing ship security measures and counteracting strategies.

The course includes crowd management techniques and the organization of effective communication to ensure security. Managing ship security systems and equipment, testing, calibration, and regular maintenance of systems are also integral parts of the program. Periodic inspections and monitoring of the technical condition of security systems, as well as methods for physically searching personnel, their personal belongings, luggage, cargo, and ship supplies, complete the list of main topics.

Level of instructor-teachers

Instructors of the course are highly qualified, have maritime education, and at least three years of experience working on ships. They have been working in training centers for more than a year and have completed the course "Designated Security Duties of Ship Personnel," in accordance with Section 1/6 of the amended STCW Code.

This course meets international standards that relate to the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO):

  • STCW Convention, Regulation VI/6.
  • STCW Code, Section A-VI/6-2, subsections 6-8.

Material and technical support of the course

For theoretical training, a classroom equipped with tables and chairs is used, providing the possibility for note-taking. The course includes the necessary number of educational materials and demonstration tools, such as stands, posters, slides, and photographs.
