The course "Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations" is designed to train tanker crews in the basics of safe cargo operations. The course covers the physical and chemical properties of cargoes, safety culture, procedures and methods for safe operations, as well as actions in emergency situations and prevention of marine pollution. Participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective and safe cargo handling operations on tankers, using the specialized Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator.
International Standards IMO: STCW Convention, Section V/1-1, subsections 1 and 2, STCW Code, Section A-V/1-1, paragraph 1, STCW Code, Section B-V/1-1.
To provide basic knowledge and skills for the safe execution of cargo operations on oil and chemical tankers in accordance with international IMO standards and the STCW Convention.
The course includes theoretical and practical training covering the main aspects of cargo operations on oil and chemical tankers.
Course instructors possess a high level of qualification and experience, meeting the international requirements of the amended STCW Code. Instructors have higher maritime education and significant experience working on sea-going vessels, including tankers; they have experience working in maritime training centers; they have completed specialized courses on the safe handling and transportation of hazardous cargoes, including courses on safe cargo operations on oil and chemical tankers, ballast management systems, inert gas systems, and firefighting.
This course complies with the international standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is regulated by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW):
Explanation of Standards
STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) — The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
These standards ensure that seafarers receive appropriate training and certification to safely and effectively perform their duties on board oil and chemical tankers.
Theoretical training is conducted in classrooms equipped with tables, chairs, instructional materials, and demonstration aids. The course utilizes the Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator, a high-tech platform for training maritime specialists working with liquid cargoes. The simulator allows for the modeling of loading, unloading, and handling processes of various types of liquid cargoes, including oil, oil products, chemicals, and liquefied gases. Trainees can manage cargo operations in conditions as close to real as possible, providing deep understanding and practical experience. The simulator also enables emergency drills, helping to develop skills for rapid and effective response to various emergencies on board.
