Advanced Fire Fighting Training is a professional course for captains, ship officers and crew members who are responsible for organising, managing and conducting firefighting operations on ships.
The training programme has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention (Regulations VI/3, Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code), SOLAS-74 international standards, the International Fire Safety Systems Code (FSS Code) and the recommendations of IMO Model Course 2.03 ‘Advanced Training in Fire Fighting’.
The main focus of the course is on the organisation, tactics and command of firefighting units. The programme prepares seafarers to make decisions in extreme situations, effectively manage firefighting operations, inspect firefighting systems and investigate incidents on board.
- • To take command of firefighting operations on a ship and coordinate the actions of the crew;
- • To organise and train firefighting teams in accordance with emergency plans;
- • Develop firefighting tactics in different areas of the ship (engine room, cargo holds, living quarters);
- • Monitor the operation of fixed firefighting systems (CO₂, foam, water curtains, sprinklers);
- • Inspect and maintain fire detection and alarm systems;
- • Use fire mains, hydrants, hoses, nozzles and pumps for effective firefighting;
- • Use firefighting clothing and personal protective equipment (breathing apparatus, heat-protective suits);
- • Investigate incidents and compile official fire reports for the company and regulatory authorities;
- • Implement fire safety measures and fire prevention procedures on board.
The course consists of 10 training modules, including video lectures, teaching materials and presentation notes to prepare for testing. The training is available on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Upon completion of the training, participants take a final test to confirm their acquired competencies in firefighting operations management.
Successful completion of the course entitles participants to receive an international Advanced Fire Fighting Training certificate, which is mandatory for all ship officers. The certificate confirms readiness to take command of firefighting operations and is valid for 5 years.
