The course "Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity Training on Ro-Ro Passenger Ships" is designed for masters, chief engineers, chief officers, second officers, and personnel designated as responsible for loading, unloading, or securing cargo, closing hull openings, and ensuring passenger safety, cargo safety, and hull integrity aboard Ro-Ro passenger ships. AVANT Seafarers Training Centre, operating since 2003 with an official license from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, has developed this course in accordance with the highest international maritime education standards.
The course is created in full compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention) – Regulation V/2, Section A-V/2, paragraph 5 of the STCW Code, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS 74) as amended, IMO Resolution MSC 417 (97), IMO Resolution MSC 416 (97), IMO Resolution MSC A.890 (21), MSC.1/Circ.1440, and in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.46 "Passenger safety, cargo safety and hull integrity training" recommendations. Ro-Ro passenger ships have unique structural features that require specialized knowledge regarding loading and unloading operations management, passenger safety assurance, proper cargo securing, and maintaining vessel hull integrity.
The course consists of 5 comprehensive modules covering all critical aspects of Ro-Ro vessel operations. Professional video lessons from experienced maritime instructors, supplementary training materials, international guidelines, and practical documents will help you thoroughly master all course topics. Modules can be studied at your convenience from a computer, smartphone, or tablet, ensuring maximum learning flexibility. You will master professional management of complex loading and unloading operations for various cargoes on Ro-Ro vessels, including automobiles, trailers, containers, and oversized equipment, considering vessel structural features and stability requirements. You will learn to properly organize safe passenger embarkation and disembarkation, paying special attention to working with disabled persons, elderly people, children, and other individuals requiring additional assistance and support, ensuring their safety and comfort. The course will provide you with in-depth knowledge of applying special safety measures, procedures, and requirements concerning the carriage of dangerous goods aboard Ro-Ro passenger ships, including marking, segregation, and emergency procedures. You will be able to confidently apply provisions of the International Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing (CSS Code), using proper securing techniques to prevent cargo shifting during rolling and bad weather. You will learn to correctly use stability and loading information, calculate stability, trim, and loading to ensure safe Ro-Ro vessel operation under various conditions. The course covers proper operation of relevant systems and application of established procedures for opening, closing, and secure fastening of bow, stern, and side doors and ramps, as well as installation and stowage of hoistable car decks, which is critically important for hull integrity. You will also master methods of controlling the atmosphere on Ro-Ro decks to prevent accumulation of hazardous gases from vehicles and cargoes, ensuring crew and passenger safety.
Course graduates must demonstrate their competence by successfully passing a final test that examines knowledge of all key aspects of passenger safety, cargo safety, and hull integrity on Ro-Ro vessels. Successful course completion allows you to receive an internationally recognized certificate "Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity Training on Ro-Ro Passenger Ships" that meets STCW Convention requirements and is recognized by maritime administrations of Ukraine, Panama, Dominican Republic, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and other flag states. This certificate is mandatory for officers and crew members working on Ro-Ro passenger ships.
