Why is Marlins Test Needed?

This is the most popular test for seafarers, alongside the CES test. While the CES test checks professional skills and seafarer qualifications, the Marlins test focuses on verifying basic and specialized English language proficiency. Questions are composed of varying difficulty and topics in maritime terminology.

The minimum passing level for the Marlins test is 65%, but most companies require a higher score. Without a Marlins certificate, getting a job in the maritime sector on foreign vessels is virtually impossible. An international Marlins certificate is issued. The ideal test score would be 85% or higher.

Important!

The most important aspect is testing English listening comprehension. Even if you pass the test with 85% or higher, but receive a low score in the Listening module, the shipping company will refuse to employ you.

Where to Take the Marlins Test?

You can take the Marlins test at the company where you wish to be employed. However, you will not receive an official certificate. And for your next employment, you will have to take the Marlins test again. Therefore, it is advisable to take the test immediately at licensed centers.
