About the Course
Liquid Cargo and Ballast Handling on Liquefied Gas Tankers is a specialized practical training course designed for deck officers and personnel responsible for cargo and ballast operations on liquefied gas tankers using a cargo handling simulator.
The course is based on IMO Model Course 1.35 – "Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Tanker Cargo and Ballast Handling Simulator" and is intended to develop practical competence in the safe operation of cargo and ballast systems, operation of cargo equipment, monitoring of cargo processes, and decision-making during both normal and emergency situations.
The training covers the complete cargo handling cycle on liquefied gas tankers, including cargo tank preparation, inerting, gassing-up, tank cool-down, cargo loading, loaded voyage operations, cargo discharge, ballast operations, cargo condition maintenance, operation of reliquefaction systems, boil-off control, and the management of equipment failures and emergency situations.
Upon Completion of the Course, Participants Will Be Able To:
- conduct cargo and ballast operations on liquefied gas tankers safely and efficiently;
- operate LPG/LEG cargo handling systems using a cargo handling simulator;
- operate cargo pumps, compressors and cargo reliquefaction systems;
- perform inerting, gassing-up, tank cool-down and gas-freeing operations;
- monitor cargo tank pressure, temperature, cargo levels and tank atmosphere;
- operate cargo control, monitoring and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems;
- plan and execute cargo loading, cargo discharge, ballasting and deballasting operations;
- calculate liquefied gas cargo quantities and maximum allowable filling limits;
- maintain vessel stability, trim and hull stress within operational limits during cargo operations;
- respond effectively to equipment malfunctions, gas leaks and cargo-related emergency situations.
Certification
Successful completion of the course, confirmed by passing the final test (and, where applicable, demonstrating practical competence), entitles the participant to receive a certificate of completion for the Liquid Cargo and Ballast Handling on Liquefied Gas Tankers course.
The certificate is issued in accordance with the approved training programme and the training centre's requirements.
