About the Course
Risk Assessment is designed to provide seafarers with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify hazards, assess operational risks and implement appropriate control measures before and during shipboard activities. The course promotes a systematic risk-based approach to safe ship operations, protecting personnel, the vessel, cargo and the marine environment.
The course is based on the principles of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), Consolidated Edition, which requires the use of risk assessment where specified by individual SOLAS provisions or where alternative technical solutions are justified by demonstrating an equivalent level of safety. SOLAS establishes the overall framework for the safe operation of ships and the management of safety-related risks.
During the training, participants learn how to identify hazards, evaluate the likelihood and consequences of hazardous events, determine risk levels, implement effective control measures, document risk assessments and apply the results when planning and carrying out shipboard operations.

Certification
Successful completion of the course, confirmed by passing the final test (and, where applicable, demonstrating practical competence), entitles the participant to receive a certificate of completion for the Risk Assessment course.
