About the Course
Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Training Course prepares seafarers for the safe use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) during onboard emergencies, entry into hazardous areas, and rescue operations. The course develops the practical skills required to operate respiratory protective equipment in environments where the atmosphere may be oxygen-deficient or contaminated by toxic gases.
Participants learn the principles of respiratory protection, SCBA construction and operating characteristics, pre-use inspection, correct donning procedures, operational limitations, and safe working practices. Particular attention is given to risk assessment, the selection and use of personal protective equipment, and coordinated teamwork during emergency response.
Practical training focuses on the confident use of SCBA during emergency situations, enclosed space operations, evacuation, and rescue activities in accordance with established shipboard safety procedures.
