Assistance for seafarers during the war: where and how to get support

In the face of the Russian invasion, support for seafarers in Ukraine has become critically important. The lives of maritime professionals have become radically more complex, due to both security threats and legal barriers, as well as constant psychological pressure. Restrictions on traveling abroad for work, growing bureaucracy, background stress, and anxiety for loved ones threatened at home... A whole complex of emerging problems is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to solve without the help of specialists.
Legal and psychological assistance for seafarers in Ukraine during the war
Problems with the paperwork, delays at the border, non-payment of compensation, non-fulfillment of the contract by the shipowner – these challenges are not easy, and should not be solved on your own. It is much more effective to resort to the qualified help of professionals. Legal assistance for seafarers in Ukraine during the war includes the following aspects:
1. Assistance to seafarers with documents, including preparation of packages for cadets and beginners, renewal of working diplomas, passports, seaman's books, and certificates.
2. Full support for the departure of seafarers under contract during the war, ranging from obtaining permission from the Shipping Administration and document analysis to a briefing on communicating with the border service.
3. Consultations for seafarers regarding the requirements of the CCC (TCC), processing of military registration documents required after the introduction of new mobilization rules.
4. Assistance in passing medical commissions and obtaining international medical certificates.
5. Receiving compensation provided by the contract and ITF. Benefits for seafarers in Ukraine include cash payments for injuries, illnesses, disability, or death.
6. Consultations regarding the declaration of income received abroad and tax payments.
Why psychological help is needed for seafarers
Due to the war, the burden on modern seafarers has increased. Long contracts and salary delays, combined with stress from hostilities and fear for families, often create dangerous psychological tension. To maintain courage, endurance, and discipline, as well as to stay in the profession for many years, it is necessary to look for ecological ways to get rid of accumulated negative emotions.
Psychological assistance for seafarers is not a tribute to fashion, but an investment in burnout prevention, a safe space for honesty with oneself and recovery.
